Practice Questions

Every year a new set of 20 practice questions are published here on the website. These have grown into a question bank which you can use to test yourself and practise for the heats or finals. Please choose a year from those listed below.

2024 | 2023 | 2022 | 2021 | 2020 | 2019 | 2018 | 2017 | 2016 | 2015 | 2014 | 2013 | 2012 | 2011 | 2010 | 2009 | 2008 | 2007 | 2006

About the Questions

During the KLQ Heats, the quizmaster reads ten rounds of ten questions, and the teams write down their answers, which are collected and marked. Each round is themed. Previous categories have included: poetry, authors, titles, settings, characters, and nursery rhymes. Quizmaster Wayne Mills writes original questions for each quiz (that's several thousand each year).

In the National and World Finals a buzzer system is used.  Each team starts with 10 points. They lose a point if they answer a question incorrectly. The quizmaster starts reading a question and teams buzz when they have an answer. If they answer incorrectly the quizmaster  continues to read that question, but the team that buzzed cannot try that question again.

As well as the practice questions above, why not test yourself with a set of twenty questions from a previous final?
